The Vent Men

About The Vent Men

We clean furnaces and ducts. That's the whole business. It isn't a way to get a tech in the door to upsell you a new furnace. This is the work we do, and it's the only work we do. The number we quote is the number on your invoice.

Who runs it

Charlie Power

Co-founder, Operations

Charlie played fullback for the Calgary Stampeders for ten years. Long enough to win two Grey Cups (2014 and 2018), and long enough to know that showing up and doing the job matters more than talking about doing the job.

After an Economics degree from the University of Saskatchewan, he built a chain of Spiritleaf stores before he retired from football. The Vent Men came after. He runs operations: scheduling, systems, the business side. Dan's the one who picks up when you call; Charlie's the one making sure the truck shows up when it's supposed to.

Dan Zentner

Co-founder, Technical Lead

Dan's been in Calgary's HVAC trade for over fifteen years. He started on the tools and stayed close to them. He can tell in five minutes whether the last crew actually did the work. A Management degree from the University of Lethbridge covers the business side; the rest he picked up in basements.

At The Vent Men, Dan runs the technical side: equipment, training, and the standard every job is held to. He takes the phone calls, because the questions customers ask are the questions he can actually answer. At home, he's raising a little boy, which he'll tell you is the harder job.

Why we built it

Calgary's duct cleaning market has a pricing problem. You book a cheap special, the kind plastered across Groupon and Google ads. The crew shows up, and somewhere between the basement and the invoice, the number changes. Extra vents they didn't mention. An AC coil charge. Mold, suddenly, that nobody saw yesterday. By the time they leave, the bill is three or four times what you were told.

This isn't one bad operator. It's how the category works. Most Calgary duct cleaners won't publish their prices because the price isn't really a price. It's an opener. We decided to build the opposite: flat rate by home type, told before the truck moves, and the quote is the invoice.
